Yahoo! announced the closure of the AltaVista search engine, in addition to 11 other products in a company's strategy to focus its efforts on the most relevant services. AltaVista, launched in 1995 and one of the first Internet search engine, belongs to Yahoo! since 2003.
"We're wrapping some products so that we can continue to focus on creating great products that are essential to their daily lives," the company said in a statement. Besides AltaVista, Yahoo! closed products such as Axis, the WebPlayer Alerts and RSS.
